Microsoft Commits $20 Billion for Cybersecurity

Microsoft has joined other tech giants in pledging to ramp up their cybersecurity efforts, the result of a meeting this week with the Biden administration. Following an Aug. 25 White House meeting, Microsoft pledged to "invest $20 billion over the next 5 years" on its cybersecurity efforts. The company also presently is offering "$150 million in technical services to help federal, state, and local governments with upgrading security protection." Microsoft is partnering with colleges and nonprofits, too, on cybersecurity training.

Microsoft's 'Weirdest Release'

Microsoft rolled out Windows Server 2022 earlier this week in an unusually understated fashion. The Visual Studio Subscriptions download page for developers lists the availability of "Windows Server 2022 Languages and Optional Features." However, the full product bits didn't appear to be there at press time. Microsoft, remarkably, has not given public notice about the commercial product release of its latest Windows Server product. Windows Server 2022 has some notable new features like Secured Core boot protection, TLS 1.3 by default and DNS over HTTPS encryption.

IBM To Spin-Off Managed Infrastructure Services

IBM announced its plan to spin-off its Managed Infrastructure Services (MIS) business which is part of Global Technology Services (GTS) division into a new publicly traded company (“NewCo”). Post spin-off, IBM will focus on its open hybrid cloud platform and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities and accelerate clients’ digital transformation journey. The spun-off unit will focus on managing and modernizing client owned infrastructures.
